Transport America Thanks Drivers for Their Dedication and Service During Driver Appreciation Week
Transport America’s annual Driver Appreciation Week (DAW) is just around the corner, and throughout the company, the staff is busy preparing to make sure that this year’s event is the best one yet.
DAW is a five-day long event conducted throughout the trucking industry that offers a dedicated time when trucking companies thank their drivers for outstanding dedication and grit.
Launched by the American Trucking Association (ATA), DAW is a voluntary event that trucking companies can choose to either bring to their companies, or opt out. Transport America has been a strong supporter of Driver Appreciation Week since day one, and looks forward to participating for years to come.
This year, DAW starts on Monday, September 10, 2018, and runs through Friday, September 14, 2018.
The highlight of DAW at Transport America is the opportunity for leadership to meet face-to-face with drivers at the company’s ten support centers.
“We want to talk with our drivers face-to-face and thank them for the hard work they do every day,” says Mikki Chadwick, Director of Human Resources for Transport America.
“This also gives our leaders an opportunity to receive honest feedback,” Chadwick adds. “We want to know how we can improve, without losing sight of what’s already great.”
As the company continues to focus on Changing Trucking, company leaders are often told by drivers that Transport America is more transparent than other companies, and treats drivers with respect. Drivers are more than just a number here.
“We call all of our drivers by their names, not their truck numbers,” Chadwick says. “That may seem small to some, but we believe it’s a huge sign of respect. It’s who we are.”
While leaders will be available all week to make sure that as many drivers as possible get a chance to be heard and thanked for their hard work, there is one DAW event that most, if not all, Transport America drivers love: Transport America’s daily DAW lunches.
Lunch will be served every day, Monday through Friday during DAW, between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Drivers will have as much time as they need to pull in, talk with leaders and have a good meal.
Every support center will feature a different menu with signature dishes offered only during DAW. And, while Transport America’s top priority is thanking drivers, families are more than welcome to join and show their appreciation for Transport America drivers.
“The menus will be posted on our electronic message boards (EMB) a few days in advance,” Chadwick says.
On top of the special appreciation lunches, Transport America will be handing out goodies to each driver. “Every driver will receive a free magnetic flashlight and a keychain with our Driver’s Line number printed on them,” Chadwick says.
Transport America leaders also will draw names for many different prizes, including limited edition DAW shirts, as well as sell 50/50 raffle tickets for charity. This year, Transport America has chosen to support Toys for Military Tots.
Drivers can buy raffle tickets for $1.00 each at the company’s support centers. The drawing takes place at the end of DAW, where 50 percent of the drawing’s contributions will be awarded to the winner, and 50 percent donated to Toys for Military Tots. See your Support Center Manager for more details.
“Transport America serves almost 1,600 drivers right now,” Chadwick says. “They are the core of what we do, and we want to thank them for their hard work.”
“As a company, we need safe, quality drivers to serve our customers,” she adds. “As Americans, we need drivers to deliver products to the store shelves. We should all be thanking truck drivers this September.”
In addition, Transport America drivers can participate in the “Why I Drive For TA” campaign. Drivers are asked to submit a photo of themselves and simply share why they love driving for Transport America on changingtrucking.com. Drivers who participate will receive a free t-shirt and be entered in a drawing to win one of four great prizes; one being $1,000. More information on this opportunity will be shared the week of DAW.
For more information on Transport America’s DAW, drivers can contact their Support Center Managers. Drivers should also keep an eye on electronic message boards for more updates.
We are looking forward to another great DAW with our Transport America family!!
